If you saw fans reactions to the New York Giants being 0-3 to the start of the 2013 regular season, you might have thought the team was 0-13, but yet, a lot of fans were ready to throw in the towel following the 38-0 loss this past Sunday to the Carolina Panthers.
It could have been the frustrations of losing; better yet, getting blown out in the last two games, or the fact that the Giants haven't had a losing season since Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning's first season in 2004, but nevertheless, Giants fans were basically jumping off the bridge with regards to the season.
Giants defensive end and captain Justin Tuck was asked by reporters on Wednesday about those same fans who might be ready to give up on the Giants in 2013, and he had a rather strong message to those same fans, as Dave Hutchinson of the Newark-Star Ledger reported.
“Don’t be a fair-weather fan,” he said. “It’s about being a fan in the good and the bad. I trust that we’re going to try our best to figure this thing out. It won’t be because of lack of effort or lack of searching. We’ll definitely put forth a great effort and turn over every rock to see if we can turn this thing around.”
Right now, it has looked about as bad as it gets for the Giants this season, who rank dead last in total defense with 115 points already surrendered and also last in rushing yards, but for the optimistic fan, there is a silver lining in this: the NFC East division as a whole is not that good this season.
The Cowboys are 2-1, the Eagles are 1-2 and then there are the Giants and Redskins both at 0-3, so all the Giants need to do is get a couple of victories and they are immediately back in the division hunt. But one thing at a time though, which would be a win, which is exactly what Tuck would like to have happen this weekend.
“If we play our best ball, it doesn’t matter what they do,” he said. “For us, we can’t allow ourselves to start looking at what other teams are doing, especially in our division. We haven’t won a football game. We have to win a football game."
The Giants will have their work cut out for them in Week 4, as they will be looking to get their first win of the 2013 season this Sunday when they take on the 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
