With fullback Henry Hynoski (shoulder) likely out for the season, the New York Giants have agreed to terms with former New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals fullback John Conner on a two-year deal, reports Aaron Wilson of National Football Post.
Conner, originally a fifth-round pick of the Jets in the 2010 NFL Draft, was released by the Bengals earlier this year despite outperforming converted tight end Orson Charles. He said the cut came as a shock, which wasn't made any easier due to the National airing of famed NFL reality TV show "Hard Knocks."
“This is a hard one. I know you’ve put your heart and soul into this,” Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis told Conner during the episode. “You didn’t do anything wrong. You have done everything. It’s more just maybe the versatility of Orson, not necessarily what you didn’t do. Orson’s contribution on special teams may be more.”
Nicknamed "The Terminator," Conner has 21 career carries for 88 yards and two touchdowns. He did, however, battle a number of injuries in 2012, including both a hamstring injury and an MCL injury.
The addition of Conner almost certainly means Hynoski, who suffered a fractured shoulder in a 38-0 loss to the Carolina Panthers, is headed for season-ending Injured Reserve (IR).
There has been no other word regarding players who worked out for the Giants on Tuesday.
Other Roster Moves: Defensive end Matt Broha and wide receiver Marcus Harris have been released off of the practice squad, while offensive lineman Steven Baker and linebacker Ty Powell have been added.
