In the midst of a 38-0 shellacking at the hands of the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, the New York Giants were bit again by the injury bug, as starting right guard Chris Snee was dealing with an injured hip.
Snee had an MRI done on the hip on Monday to see if there was any structural damage done which, according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, there is no new injury to the hip, but instead, some inflammation and soreness, which will likely force him out of practice to see if it calms down and eventually goes away.
Schwartz also mentioned that if the inflammation does not calm down or go away, the Giants could shut down Snee for an indefinite amount of time, which he reported on Tuesday during the team's practice and preparation for the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4.
"MRI revealed no new injury. Snee's hip sore and inflamed and if it doesn't calm down he'll probably have to be shut down, source says," he tweeted.
Snee had dealt with hip pains all last season and even had off-season hip surgery to help alleviate the pain and hopefully, end the injury issue, but the injury has reared its head again for the 31-year-old veteran and son-in-law of head coach Tom Coughlin, who has really worn down over the last couple of seasons due to injuries and age, especially since he has been the team's starting right guard ever since the 2004 season.
If the Giants shut him down, it's unknown how long he would be out for with the injury, and if his status with the team going forward in the future would be in jeopardy. Snee still has one more year left on a six-year, $41 millon deal he signed back in June of 2008 and is set to make $6.95 million in 2014.
