There really were no other words to describe the New York Giants' 38-0 defeat at the hands of the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium other than one: embarrassing.
It was an overall embarrassing effort put together by the Giants as a whole from beginning to end in which the Giants defense couldn't stop a high school offense, as they allowed Cam Newton to throw for three touchdown passes and DeAngelo Williams ran for 120 yards on 23 carries en route to going 0-3 on the season, as Perry Fewell's defense has now allowed 115 points in the first three games.
Which again, is why the embarrassing remark is mentioned, because in all honesty, that's the reality of it. The Giants know things need to change if they want any chance of salvaging the season and avoiding an 0-4 start against the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday.
Following the blowout loss to the Panthers on Sunday, Conor Orr of the Newark-Star Ledger talked to starting outside linebacker Spencer Paysinger, who said the team needs to drastically change things if they want to find the win column, which the Giants clearly haven't in 2013.
"Defensively, we're going to have to change some stuff, you know?" Paysinger said. "What we're doing hasn't been producing for us so we'll have to go back to the drawing board and get to a point where we can start putting points on the board, start getting some stops. It's a collective effort. All teams have to work in harmony and we haven't caught that stride yet."
Paysinger, who finished with three solo tackles and one assist, acknowledged that it's not just one particular thing going wrong for the Giants defense and while Paysinger could have pointed the finger at certain players, he decided to keep it vague after the defeat.
"It's just a plethora of things, you know?" he added.
It will not just be on Paysinger, but the entire defensive unit, starting with Fewell, to figure out a way to get things fixed and fixed in a hurry before it's too late and the season is not even salvageable; if it's already to that point in three weeks of the season.
