The New York Giants will already be without right tackle David Diehl (thumb) and running back Andre Brown (IR) on Sunday night when they play the Dallas Cowboys, but it looks like they will also be without fullback Henry Hynoski (knee), reports Art Stapleton of The Record.
Although Hynoski has returned to practice after spending a majority of the offseason on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, the Giants don't appear willing to risk an unneeded setback by playing him in week one. And, at least as of right now, it's beginning to look like their week two match-up against the Denver Broncos is a more realistic return date. So if you're a fan of football betting, that's probably where you should put your money.
In Hynoski's absence, back-up tight end Bear Pascoe will have to take over. And with Adrien Robinson (foot) also likely to miss the game, it leaves the Giants with only two tight ends — Brandon Myers and Larry Donnell. It's also a great example of why General Manager Jerry Reese and head coach Tom Coughlin opted to keep four tight ends on their 53-man roster.
David Wilson, who offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said will receive an increased workload, will now have to make due without his lead blocker and right tackle, and quite possibly, his center, David Baas, as well.
"Last year I had limitations on not knowing certain things and not being able to react on the fly when certain opportunities were presented," Wilson said on Thursday afternoon. "Just having a year under my belt makes me more knowledgeable about the game."
Da'Rel Scott is expected to see time behind Wilson.
