The New York Giants held their first regular season practice on Monday, and for the most part, news was good. In addition to fullback Henry Hynoski (knee), Big Blue saw defensive ends Jason Pierre-Paul (back) and Damontre Moore (shoulder), wide receiver Victor Cruz (foot) and cornerbacks Corey Webster (groin/knee) and Jayron Hosley (ankle) return to the field.
However, despite practicing on Monday, the availability of both Cruz and JPP remains up in the air for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.
"When I come back, I'll be fully ready to play," JPP said, adding that he will not play on Sunday night unless he was 100%.
Head coach Tom Coughlin said JPP showed a good burst during practice, but admitted concern over his conditioning. He also said Pierre-Paul will need to participate in each practice this week in order to prep himself, in the event he plays, for what will be a very physical and demanding game this weekend.
Cruz, meanwhile, says he's "a little ahead" of schedule, but would not commit to playing either.
"If I wake up in the morning and it doesn’t swell up on me, anything crazy like that, I’ll be good to go," Cruz said, adding that he was a little nervous about making cuts.
For offensive linemen David Diehl (thumb) and David Baas (knee), as well as tight end Adrien Robinson (foot), the news wasn't as good. All three sat out of practice on Monday, joining defensive tackle Markus Kuhn (PUP) on the stationary bikes.
Coughlin noted after practice that it's going to be "a while" for Robinson due to soreness in his foot. The good news is that previous X-Rays came back negative.
