The New York Giants got horrible news on Thursday night as running back Andre Brown suffered a fractured left leg — the same leg he had broken only a season ago. And although it wasn't announced officially, that will likely end his season.
The injury occurred late in the first half and did not appear serious initially. Brown walked off under his own power, albeit with a limp, and appeared only mildly frustrated. He proceeded to limp into the locker-room for X-Rays, where it was discovered that he had suffered a fracture.
Brown is no stranger to major injuries, having suffered the aforementioned broken fibula and having also previously ruptured his Achilles.
Although this injury will likely be of the season-ending variety, the Giants do have the option to put the temporary Injured Reserve (IR) designation on Brown. However, they would have to determine how long it is until offensive lineman David Diehl (thumb) can return, as he may also be considered for the same designation.
As the injury was announced in the Giants' press room, co-owner John Mara leaned his head back and stared silently at the ceiling for about a half a minute. It was very representative of how Big Blue Nation feels with only 10 days remaining until the regular season opener.
And while it may be early to speculate, some names you may hear this weekend and early next week could include Brandon Jacobs, Michael Turner and Tim Hightower.
Update: Tom Coughlin says Brown suffered a "small fracture" and he "doesn't believe" it's season-ending.
