The last thing NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wants to hear is that Super Bowl XLVIII will be played during a major winter storm, but if The Farmers Almanac is correct, that's exactly what's going to happen.
The latest version of the 197-year-old publication will hit newstands on Monday and include details on what they claim will be a "bitterly cold" storm engulfing most of the Northeast right around the time Super Bowl XLVIII is scheduled to be played. They have already dubbed the game "Storm Bowl."
"We're using a very strong four-letter word to describe this winter, which is C-O-L-D. It's going to be very cold," Sandi Duncan, managing editor, told CBS News.
The Farmers' Almanac is very specific in their projections, claiming a "super cold" and "super messy" winter storm will impact the area from February 1st through February 3rd. The Big Game, of course, falls right in the middle of that timeframe — February 2nd.
"It really looks like the Super Bowl may be the Storm Bowl." Duncan added.
Luckily for the New York Giants, if they find themselves playing for the Lombardi Trophy in their own stadium,it would be during ideal circumstances. They actually perform better in cold weather (below 40 degrees) than they do in warmer weather (above 40 degrees).
