Baas has a different outlook though, as he feels that he could be back and ready to go when the regular season starts on September 8th when they play the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, as he told Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.
“Yeah, I think it is (realistic),” he said. “And that’s what I expect, too.”
If Baas is sidelined for the 3-6 weeks, the Giants have a plan in place, as Kevin Boothe shifts over from left guard to center playing in Baas' place, David Diehl moves from right tackle to left guard and Justin Pugh takes over the starting right tackle spot; moves that head coach Tom Coughlin was very confident in making for their next preseason game on Saturday against the New York Jets.
“It’s the best way for us to play right now,” Tom Coughlin said. “We fortunately have some guys who can play in a lot of different spots."
Baas has developed a solid rapport being the center for quarterback Eli Manning over the last three years, so getting him back on the line is very important to the team, but the veteran knows being healthy is most important and not rushing him back too soon from the knee injury suffered this week.
“I'm just going to do everything I can to get back as fast as I can,” he said, “but be smart about it."
The 31-year-old Baas has played in 27 games for the Giants over the last two seasons and missed five games due to injury back in 2011.
