As if recent injuries news hasn't been bad enough for the New York Giants lately, wide receiver Victor Cruz spoke to the media on Tuesday while on crutches and sporting a walking boot, while offensive lineman David Diehl was seen wearing a hard cast on his right hand.
"I think it’s going to be where it’s predominantly the swelling that’s the issue. Once the swelling goes down, I think I’ll be OK," Cruz told the media. "I just want to be smart. Make sure all the swelling is gone. Keep it iced as much as possible. Get the ice massage to get the swelling down as much as possible and kind of stay ahead of it. But I don’t see it lingering. I don’t think anything long term."
Cruz, of course, suffered what the team called a "bruised heel" during a 20-12 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night. And although Cruz and other sources have downplayed the significance of the injury, head coach Tom Coughlin has expressed some concern over it.
On Tuesday, Cruz told members of the media that he "didn't hear any pop," but admitted his entire foot went "numb" and that he could sense something wasn't right in his heel. Trainers immediately took him out of the game and it's unlikely he'll play again this preseason.
Meanwhile, for Diehl, the injury to his right hand is a new revelation.
The good news is that the veteran plans to practice on Tuesday and said he'd simply play through the injury. What the injury is however, remains up in the air. Diehl merely said it wasn't a broken bone, but the hard cast would suggest it's something worth keeping an eye on.
