Giants’ Antrel Rolle Could Return to Practice This Week; Damontre Moore “Getting Closer”

With a plethora of negative injury-related news dominating the headlines for the New York Giants, positive updates on safety Antrel Rolle (ankle) and defensive end Damontre Moore (shoulder) have gone almost entirely overlooked. But during a media conference call on Monday, head coach Tom Coughlin suggested that both players are on the mend, with Rolle possibly returning to practice as early as this week.

“Yes, he is [getting closer],” Coughlin said during a Monday conference call. “The projection is yes [he can practice soon], maybe a little bit later in the week, but the projection is hopefully that we will have an opportunity to get Antrel on the practice field this week.”

Meanwhile, Coughlin added that rookie defensive end Damontre Moore, who opened eyes across the league with his preseason week one performance, is "getting closer." However, the coach wouldn't commit to a return date.

“Well, he’s getting closer," Coughlin said. "According to the doctors, he’s not there yet, but he’s getting closer.”

Finally, for veteran captain and defensive end Justin Tuck (hamstring), things remain a bit up in the air.

"Justin Tuck has a mild hamstring and, again, who knows?" Coughlin said. "Come tomorrow morning, it may be that he can’t work at all and hopefully he’ll have an opportunity to do some things. That’s the word I have now."

Training camp practice gets underway at 3:25 PM EST on Tuesday afternoon (as opposed to the normal time of 1:30 PM EST). We'll see then whether or not Tuck suits up.

what do they have this week, 2 practices?
today and tomorrow? today and thursday?

It’s possible Boothe is the best guard on our roster right now, pending Snee’s performance.

That being said, I remember the last time he filled in at center. Everybody was impressed with his blocking, but the thing that stuck out for me was Eli constantly picking balls up off the dirt.

They didn’t cost us at the time, so most ignored them. Those are disasters waiting to happen though. I’ll take my chances with Cordle.

Victor Cruz! , Antrel Rolle , David Baas , Damonster Moore – I would have liked more questions on why the Giants sucked . Injuries are happening everywhere – this is not news ! Benton , this is not a criticism on your reporting , far from it but letting TC of the hook is annoying .
If this is such a dynamic offense where the h–l are the TDs ?This goes back to the 70s and 80s when us fans consoled ourselves that the Giants had 4 scoring chances and came up with 12 points and the opposition had 3 chances and got 20 points – how is that winning a game ? THATS the questions TC should have gotten .
Luck was throwing those little passes into the flat etc and the Giants had no answers.
The Giants definitely have the speed so why not get Wilson , or anyone else with a modicum of speed out into the flat . Thats how the other teams in the NFC east are killing us . RG111 , Vick , are getting out into space themselves or getting it to Desean Jackson or Lesean McCoy and let them use their skills . Well , certainly the Giants have that speed so where are those type of plays that are designed to spring them ? OY – (Thats a Yiddish expression designed to show resignation , disgust and a little irritation ) . It should be spoken with a long drawn out Oyyyyy
and the look of the guy on the right .

Been tooting that horn for a few years now about the red zone offense. You missed yesterday’s threads.

also, the passes out of the flats are going to be troubling all year since we dont have LB’s that are going to be able to keep up.

Well, anything that smacks of “reshuffling” the line sounds good to me. That may be the only way these coaches get Diehl out of that right tackle position where he has become a menace to the Giants’ hopes. I have an immense amount of respect for the guy, but he’s done. I don’t want him playing tackle. I don’t want him playing guard. I don’t want him playing.

The picture keeps changing so my point is not really emphasized by the picture up there now

We’ve actually been very lucky so far in that none of the important players have been seriously injured. If we can sneak through the next two games (this one on Saturday worries me because it always seems someone gets hurt when they play the Jets) in the same fashion we’ll be among the few teams that haven’t been overly damaged in preseason. I’m just unhappy we open against Dallas because I see no way that this team will have its act together by Week 1. The discontinuity that results from the new CBA-mandated schedule in camp, and the accumulation of relatively minor injuries that has resulted in never having all of the players who will be relying on each other to be on the field at the same time, is going to hurt a team that depends a lot on a dynamic offense that is based upon a complex system that mandates immediate reads and knowing what your teammates are going to be doing based upon those reads.

Of course the Cowboys should be dealing with the same issues, but I’d have been a lot happier if we didn’t start division play until Week 4-5.
