Over the years, Manning has worked with the likes of Tiki Barber, Jeremy Shockey, Kevin Boss, Plaxico Burress, Amani Toomer, Steve Smith, Mario Manningham and David Tyree in the past and currently is throwing passes to the likes of Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle, David Wilson and Brandon Myers.
In an interview with NFL.com on Monday, they asked the two-time Super Bowl MVP who he felt his favorite receiver was and gave a very interesting answer to the question.
"I've never thought of anyone as the number one guy, I have reads. I have a progression of receivers, and if they get open, they are going to get the ball. I don't have favorite receivers in particular, my favorite receiver is the one who gets open."
In Sunday's second preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts in which the Giants lost 20-12, the offense got an important player back in the offense in wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, as he had been bothered by a tight groin during the summer. Manning said it was great to have Nicks back on the field and being able to target him down the field when needed.
"He's been looking good in practice, work the next few weeks in training camp to get our timing down, experience always helps and we'll continue to work and we'lll always continue to work with each other. That's the good thing about the preseason, it gives you the chance to work out the rust to get ready for the season."
One thing that was brought up to Manning was the possibility of the offense being one of the best in the NFL, as last season the offense ranked sixth overall and had 429 points, but with a healthier Nicks, Myers now in the offense, along with Randle and Wilson having a full year to get the offense under their belt, many experts feel that the team could be even better. Manning felt that they could be, but the unit still needs to do the job to get to that kind of level.
"It's going to take doing your job, having all 11 guys doing what they need to. If one guy misses his assignment, then the whole thing fails. We have a lot of play-makers, it's about being able to perform to the best of their ability out there."
In Sunday night's loss to the Colts, Manning went 8-for-17 with 91 yards and an interception. Their next preseason game will be this coming Saturday at MetLife Stadium against the New York Jets; a game that is an annual meeting between the two during the preseason.
