New York Giants Have Approximately $3.31 Million in Cap Space

Remember when the New York Giants were over the cap and there was unjust panic about the potential inability to sign any of their own free agents, let alone other free agents and their draft picks? Well, not only have the Giants done all of those things (save for draft picks Justin Pugh and Ryan Nassib, who remain unsigned), but they've managed to clear additional cap space and now have approximately $3.31 million in room — all with a full 90-man roster.

As of May 26th, the team is $3,312,849 under the 2013-2014 cap, but that does not include the salaries of the aforementioned Pugh and Nassib, nor does it include the potential long-term deal with current restricted free agent (RFA) Victor Cruz. It's also unclear if it accounts for the one-year, $715,000 deal given to wide receiver Ramses Barden.

Although not a whole lot of wiggle room, it's proof that concern over the cap tends to be a bit premature and that General Manager Jerry Reese is a master of adjusting whatever it is he needs to. However, that cap management may become a tad more difficult as the team attempts to fit in Cruz before they (likely) begin working on long-term deals for both Hakeem Nicks and Jason Pierre-Paul.

Reese is a smart GM. He knows how to create cap space. But there’s no sense doing it unless you need it. When Cruz signs you’ll see some moves then I bet.

To any servicemen or women, or their families, on Giants 101, today I thank you for your sacrifice and your willingness to put your life on hold in order to serve our country. Far from “National BBQ Day,” this day ought to be a remembrance of the lives that have been lost founding and maintaining this country of ours.

In a related story Kate Mara was spotted this morning at the JFK International Terminal boarding a flight for Medellin, toting two steel suitcases large enough to hold 3.3 million dollars in cash.

3.3 mil under the cap is enough room assuming the Cruz 2.9 tender is already included. Such a deal for Cruz and/or Nicks in many ways will look like the Beatty contract. Beatty only counts 3.5 mil against this year’s cap. So not much additional money is need to sign Cruz and/or Nicks. Even contracts like the Barden one only affect the cap like 200k because the 51st player was probably making in the 400k range before and Barden only counts 620k against the cap.

i believe that giants are in rough shape for this coming year with FA.. our top two WR and out best DT and a Tuck who should have been cut this year..

if these guys pan out we will not be able to sign any of these guys..

to fix this issue this coming year..
    rolle 9mill
    Baas 8.2 mill
    Kiwi 7mill

baas we can just release because he is vastly over paid. start dehl on the inside where he belongs and have booth play center..

    Kiwi would restructure

TT could move to safety and that would allow us to cut rolle..

    but we will see..

People keep saying Myers is only on a one year contract, but didn’t we sign him to a contract that could keep him on the team for 4 years, if the team wanted?

I was under the impression that it was considered a one year deal because the giants could cut him with no repercussions after year one, but if we wanted to, we could keep him for longer.

its like an option deal for what i remember.. so myer will have the option to stay or leave and the giants only have the option to cut him with no charge.. i could be wrong though…

I think the Giants have the option of voiding the final 3 years on his deal, however the final 3 years have base salaries of 4 mil. So it depends on what they value him at. I don’t believe Meyers has the option to void the years though.
