New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has unexpectedly been invited to the 2013 Pro Bowl. By all accounts, Manning had a down season in 2012. However, he still threw for nearly 4,000 yards and put up 26 touchdowns on the season. He did all of this without having a healthy Hakeem Nicks for the entire year. This will be his third Pro Bowl appearance in his nine seasons in the league.
Manning was not originally selected to attend the Pro Bowl in 2013. In fact, he was named the second alternate behind New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who is replacing Robert Griffin III. However, today, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers told ESPNWisconsin.com that has elected not to play due to injuries to "multiple lower extremities."
Luckily for Eli, he'll will have some company out in Hawaii . Victor Cruz, Jason Pierre-Paul and Chris Snee were all selected at their respective positions when the rosters were originally announced. Although the Giants had a 9-7 record and missed the playoffs, several players on the team were acknowledged for their play. Some of these selections are based upon reputation, while some players flat-out deserved it. Nevertheless, Giants fans should be proud that their team will have a significant presence at the Pro Bowl in 2013.
