By all accounts, Manning had a down season in 2012. However, he still threw for nearly 4,000 yards and put up 26 touchdowns on the season. He did all of this without having a healthy Hakeem Nicks for the entire year. This will be his third Pro Bowl appearance in his nine seasons in the league.

Manning was not originally selected to attend the Pro Bowl in 2013. In fact, he was named the second alternate behind New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who is replacing Robert Griffin III. However, today,  Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers told ESPNWisconsin.com that has elected not to play due to injuries to "multiple lower extremities."

Luckily for Eli, he'll will have some company out in Hawaii . Victor Cruz, Jason Pierre-Paul and Chris Snee were all selected at their respective positions when the rosters were originally announced. Although the Giants had a 9-7 record and missed the playoffs, several players on the team were acknowledged for their play. Some of these selections are based upon reputation, while some players flat-out deserved it. Nevertheless, Giants fans should be proud that their team will have a significant presence at the Pro Bowl in 2013.

    Maybe they’re punking him?

Don’t really think that we should be proud. Most of these guys don’t deserve to be in the Pro Bowl.

That’s the way the Pro Bowl works. A lot of the guys don’t deserve to be there. Nevertheless, we still sent four guys and that says something about the talent on the roster. Obviously, the Pro Bowl is meaningless, but it makes me feel better that Eli was still among the best quarterbacks in the NFL even during a down season.

I think it was FF55 who mentioned it, but here’s something about a read-option team (the Seahawks) wanting a mobile backup QB who could make the transition to starter easier if Russell Wilson went down:

Coach Pete Carroll admitted that Matt Flynn could be moved this offseason.
Flynn was signed to a $19.5 million contract last March, but lost the starting job to Russell Wilson. Now Carroll is hinting that he wants a backup quarterback with a similar skill set to Wilson so there will be smooth transition should the starter go down. Flynn is a pure West Coast passer, not a mobile playmaker. “As we move forward we’re going to figure it out. … It would be nice to have another guy that might be able to be a factor that way. There’s some really good kids out there. We’ll see.”

    1 more HoF credential

However he is undeserving…just like the rest of our probowlers

Also, anybody hearing about this kid Armond Armstead? He’s a young defensive tackle (I think 22) who played in the CFL after suffering a heart attack at USC in 2011. Had 6 sacks and a bunch of tackles up in Canada and led his team to a championship. Could be an interesting signing for Reese, given the lack of depth at defensive tackle.

A free trip to Hawaii to play in a game no one watches.

    Can I replace Eli?

  7. GmenMania says:

Marc Ross has withdrawn his name from the Jets GM search, which means he will remain with the Giants for at least another year (Panthers and Chargers hired other people).

LOL at GmenMania’s UUT on the last thread!

I’m Eli’s biggest fan, but is someone kidding? Between Eli agreeing to be the QB at the Pro Bowl (he should be embarrassed to take that spot) and Snee delaying surgery for a month so he can get the free vacation, I wonder if the Giants are falling into the Eighth Dimension.

I don’t like this one bit.

Glad to see Ross was smart enough to say “no thank you” to the Jets. Maybe they will come up with a solution that keeps him here now. Would have been a big blow to lose both Gettleman and Ross in one month.

      “Lighten up Francis”.

Eli has nothing to be embarrassed about at all. Somebody has to go and he’s a good soldier. Aaron Rogers went last year and we all remember him vaginating about what a joke the effort was by the NFC players, so it’s no shock he’s sitting this one out. “Injuries to multiple lower extremities” means he’ll be home with a hot water bottle on his cramps and gobbling Midol like he’s Pac Man instead of The Pack’s Man.

I could be wrong but I think a lot of pro bowl votes are based on the previous year.

Especially with positions that don’t have a lot of hard numbers associated with them. OL in particular.
