Loading ...New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw completed his sixth season in the NFL after yesterday's game. For the second time in his career, he has reached the 1,000 yard rushing mark after the Giants' 42-7 rout of the Eagles.
Though rookie running back David Wilson received the starting nod, Bradshaw put on a dominant performance. He would finish the game with 16 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown, as well as a 41-yard reception.
"It feels great," said Bradshaw. "It was a big goal at the beginning of the year, and we just wanted to have a better year than last year rushing the ball, and I think we did."
Last season the Giants ranked dead last in rushing yards with 1,427, while this year they improved to 1,872 yards which is about average compared to other teams. Though the team improved its rushing attack, it didn't help them repeat last year's success. Despite being eliminated from the playoffs, Bradshaw was content with how he and the team played against Philly.
"We’re very happy with it," Bradshaw said. "We just wanted to come out and have a lot of fun today, and that’s what we did. We knew this could be the last ride for a lot of guys to be Giants, and we just wanted to have fun with those guys."
"It could be me at the same token," Bradshaw added, "so I just wanted to come out and put it all on the field."
There is some speculation that this could be Bradshaw's last season as a Giant. He's only 26-years-old and coming off his second most productive season, but he is constantly battling injuries, and some question how many more hits his body can take. Bradshaw's physical, punishing style of running is mainly to blame for his injury issues. Most weeks Bradshaw would only practice once or twice to save his body for gameday.
In addition, the Giants' first round selection, David Wilson, has really come on late in the season, and will likely get a larger role in the offense next year, causing some to wonder how valuable he will be. However, Bradshaw has made it clear he loves the Giants organization, and has no desire to play for any other team.
"I can’t look back on anything and regret anything," Bradshaw said. "This organization is the best in the business. Just the people around, the pride in the building, the heart of the game that these guys have player-wise, it’s top of the line."

Dan, for guys like Canty, Bradshaw, Webster, Bolely and Tuck, guys who are in the last year of their contract and appear to be on the downside of their career, what are the salary cap implications of releasing them any time before the start of next season?
I hope to see Bradshaw back out of the several starters that will likely be looking elsewhere for jobs. Webster I am kind of on the fence about because we know he can be great at times. But we also know he can be awful. Does anybody know of any FA starting CB’s?
Bradshaw actually has 2 years left on his deal so his future will be quite interesting.
Diehl is in his last year.

There are a ton of other guys who are FA, but all of them are back up or untested players who won’t command big dollars.
You left Will Beatty off this list. To me his is priority #1, ahead of even Cruz.

I’m in the other camp when it comes to Bradshaw. He’s just finished a 1,000 yard season. He’s due $3.75 mil next year. That’s not really a lot of cap space. And we need at least 2 solid RBs. He and Wilson are the tandem. Brown and Scott are total wildcards, and cannot be depended on right now.
I’m sure he’ll restructure to make it more cap friendly. But he’s not costing us a lot.
If I didn’t fear Coughlin taking snaps away from Wilson to make Bradshaw happy, I’d agree with you. But Wilson has been and will be clearly the better back.

I’m as underwhelmed as I am with discussing the importance of Cruz being a 1,000+ yard receiver with 19 other guys or Eli being a 3,500+ yard passer with 16 other guys. This was a championship offense returned intact, they should have this production.
ROT is where we need an upgrade. That’s the biggest bang-for-the-buck when it comes to helping the team. Maybe it’s Brewer … that’s the ideal solution. If not then one has to be found.
In fact if the Brewer experiment proves successful then that’s probably the biggest off-season boost the team could get. It saves drastically improves the OL … and at no cost in picks or cap space.
If we don’t get a stud ROT in free agency or the draft then you can bet your last dollar they’ve penciled him in at ROT.
I had to take some time off after the Bmore debacle which in my view was the worse game we played since the 2009 finale that closed Giant stadium. This season is such a weird season in many ways. Unfortunately we were consistent enough in bringing top efforts which is clear why we are on the outside looking in. But then looking at our schedule on where teams actually ended up our only “bad” losses were at a healthy Philly team that played well, at home versus a clicking Pitt team and at home versus an average Dallas team. We lost to one team under 500% this year. So while I fully agree we underachieved especially with the manner of some of our losses but who we actually lost to really wasn’t bad. The depth of quality teams on our schedule I think wore us down. We played a lot of good teams and while we beat some good teams and very good teams we lost to our share as well.
If you want to break our season down it really comes down to 2 games. The Pitt game while we were clearly outplayed was a game we could have won and were in position to win. The other game was the second redskin game. That game would have provided us cushion that even with the losses to Atl and Bal we would have still won the division. That game also energized the redskins into really believing. But while the redskin game will be looked at the key a game I still think it’s Pitt. At 7-3 with the split we had in our final 6 games we make the playoffs.
The real reason we didn’t make the playoffs in comparison to last year is that the redskins stepped up. We had the same overall and division record compared to last year. And Dallas also had the same record. Washington just stepped up and actually ended up playing better than any division team the last 2 years.
We have numerous questions going into the offseason but I think much like 2010 to 2011 we need tweaks not major changes. Some vets probably won’t return but to be honest guys like Canty, Bradshaw, Webster, Bolely, Tuck and Diehl aren’t amongst our best players anymore. So while losing a few would be big name wise based on their 2012 play it’s not that big of deal. I think the bigger deal is our continued growth from our young players. Next year will show if this is just a temporary bump in the road or if we really will have to do some major re-tooling of this roster after next year.

Heres a spreadsheet a friend of mine made that takes into account, the salries for 2013. Look at that list and tell me Canty doesnt deserve to be cut along with Webster and Diehl. unless they take a massive restructure. Seriously, how underwhelming has Canty been in his tenure with us? One of the bigger FA bust I can remember for the Giants..

Canty is a beast when healthy … but that doesn’t seem to be happening any time soon. I believe Webster is a victim of scheme. He’s not a coverage guy. Square peg … round hole. But that changes nothing.
