Loading ...New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin took the podium in a very focused mood on Wednesday, and pulled no punches. He got right down to business discussing the Philadelphia Eagles, and said the playoff scenario doesn't matter. He wants to see his team play an "excellent football game" on Sunday and let the chips fall where they may.
"Pride, honor and dignity," Coughlin said he had preached to his players. "Finish the season with a game we can all be proud of."
As for injuries, the final regular season pre-practice injury report included 10 players. They were Prince Amukamara (hamstring), David Baas (hip/shoulder), Travis Beckum (knee), Ahmad Bradshaw (knee/foot), Chris Canty (knee), Hakeem Nicks (knee), Kenny Phillips (knee), Tyler Sash (hamstring), Chris Snee (hip) and Justin Tuck (shoulder).
Of the players listed on the pre-practice injury report, Canty and Bradshaw will not practice. Snee and Baas "may" do a little something, and Tuck will be limited. The coach offered no status update on the other five players.
Coughlin continued to stress throughout his conference that the playoff scenarios and possibilities are irrelevant. He was adamant that the Giants return to playing with pride and emotion, and said they are "excited to play in front of the fans" on Sunday.
But the question was posed: Are you proud of the team?
"I have a very short memory and I only remember the last two games," Coughlin said. "I am proud of the individuals. I am not proud of the results."
When asked about some of the recent struggles, Coughlin was blunt in his assessment, saying "our defense can't stop anyone, and our offense can't keep our defense off of the field."
Finally, Coughlin was asked about defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who recently hinted that Sunday may be his final game with Big Blue. Although it was a question the coach would normally dismiss, he gave it some thought for a brief second before saying…
"I hope that's not the case. I'd much rather play with Osi than without him."
With that, Coughlin was off to prepare for a "well rested" Michael Vick.

Tom should tell us when David Baas is NOT on the injury report. That would be news.
It’s super early to be talking draft, but the guy hitting all the right parameters is DJ Fluker, a ROT from Alabama.
Canty, Bradshaw, Snee and Baas will not practice. The latter two “may” do something. Tuck will be limited.
Nobody practices on this team. That’s half the problem. I’ve been screaming about this all year.
And on top of that the CBA has reduced in-pad practices.
As a former football player, I say that’s part of the reason for increased injuries. No contact at all and then the players are thrown into the most violent game on earth. No surprise they are like glass.
I think that has had a bigger inpact on the season than people want to admit.

The conditioning is really bad. I think the have to practice without the teams knowledge to get things right. Very sad. No more two-a-days either.
