Loading ...Well, so much for that. The San Francisco 49ers confirmed they have suspended Brandon Jacobs instead of releasing him, which would have allowed him to sign with the New York Giants or any other team.
Kyle Bonagura of CBSsports.com Tweets that the 49ers are calling it a suspension, after Bonagura's tweet that Jacobs was no longer a member of the team and had cleaned out his locker led us to believe he had been released.
The thought of #27 coming home to the Meadowlands got us giddy for a minute but it looks like the 49ers weren't willing to risk Jacobs playing for a fellow NFC contender.
So much for that. And so much for a fairy tale ending to what has got to be the worst year of Jacobs' career.

Can you really suspend a guy for complaining about playing time?
If that’s all he did, I’m sure the players union will get involved. But who knows, maybe he was being disruptive in practice or meetings.
If he’s getting paid they can’t do anything. It’s just conduct detrimental to them team. I remember Keyshawn Johnson getting suspended in a similar way.

I stand corrected. The union will automatically appeal. I would be surprised if he doesn’t get his money. At least most of it. A fine might be fair but suspension with no pay? That seems hard to justify.
I’m sure Harbaugh realized that, if no other team took him, the Giants would. And the last thing he wants to do is give more ammo to the team that handed him his worst beating as an NFL coach. Even if he things Jacobs is garbage, he wouldn’t want a pissed off RB that size running at his defense.
Even more so, Jacobs could provide the Giants with a limited amount of inside knowledge regarding the 49ers playbook. Probably wouldn’t amount to much, but the last thing the 49ers need is to do the Giants any favors.

I didn’t know about that. If he made harmful comments not only is he a dirtbag, but he may wind up a litigant. You cannot willfully harm someone’s reputation unless you have absolute proof that what you’ve said is a fact.
Those two must have grown up in a dysfunctional household. They are both real punks. Now I hope the Ravens miss the playoffs, which is quite possible.

Citing team sources, Cole reports that Cameron was a “control freak” and his firing was done in large part to appease contract-year QB Flacco. Cameron was reportedly concerned with showing “everybody how smart he is every day,” and “came off as a preacher at times” in the locker room.
Of course, we’ll never know who did that. But you don’t do that sht to someone you fire.
Ehhh……we’re jumping to assumptions here by blaming John Harbaugh. We’ll never know who leaked the information. For all we know, it could have been Joe Flacco or an offensive lineman.
In fact, I’d be more willing to point the finger at Flacco. Flacco’s had issues with Cam for quite a while now.
Well, as I said earlier, this was always too good to be true. There was never any reason for them to waive him and risk his return to the Giants, or really any NFC playoff contender. Especially not this late in the game, when suspending him would accomplish the same goal–divesting themselves of the bad attitude we all know he could sometimes have (i.e.- chucking his helmet into the stands).
He won’t be in San Fran next year, and he likely won’t be back here either. This was a unique opportunity that never really was. Sad, because he is undoubtedly my favorite Giant of the last decade. Eli is a close second, then Strahan. Although I have to say that Martelllus “Black Unicorn” Bennett could make an appearance on my list if his stay lasts longer than the 2012 season.
By “unique opportunity,” I mean that it would have been a confluence of events unique to this specific time, the possible union of supply and demand. With Bradshaw perpetually hobbled by this or that, Wilson being a dynamic rookie not ready for the full load, our bruising back, Andre Brown, on season ending IR along with Da’Rel Scott, and 2 relative nobodies on the squad holding space, Jacobs could have been the perfect tonic. He’s 30 and obviously knows this offense. Perfect fit.
But next year, with Wilson being a year wiser, Brown a year healthier, and Bradshaw still perpetually hobbled, there won’t be any room for a 31 year old with not much tread left on the tires. He shouldn’t have left in the first place, and it’s really sad to see him pay for that mistake.
I agree. I think his career is probably over. Given he’s not a great short yardage, his age and no production this year he’s probably a lot like ryan grant this year if he even wants a chance to play.
Such is life in football. Look what happened to Steve Smith and Kevin Boss. Hell, even Jeremy Lin.
