Loading ...File this under the "I didn't expect to hear that today" category, but while appearing on WFAN Monday morning, former New York Giants wide receiver and current free agent, Plaxico Burress, said that former teammate Eli Manning is quite possibly the best quarterback in the NFL today.
"Eli is arguably the best quarterback in football right now," Burress said.
With that statement, Burress joins a growing list of former Giants who have come to the defense of Eli following some shocking comments courtesy of the retired Amani Toomer in which he named Tony Romo as the premiere quarterback in the NFC East.
Toomer's comments, which he's defended endlessly since making them last week, have stirred up quite the controversy during an otherwise quiet pre-training camp calm. They've also brought a lot of Manning's former teammates -including Derrick Ward, Michael Strahan, Brandon Jacobs and even Jeremy Shockey- out from the shadows; all of whom have defended Eli tooth and nail.
To hear both Shockey and Burress defend Eli is quite telling. At best, both players had a tenuous relationship with Manning, but they also significantly benefited from his talent. It's a testament to how solid a QB Manning really is, and a far cry from the things you hear from Romo's former teammates.

To the list of things I consider completely irrelevant are now added Plaxico Burress’ opinions about anything, and whether Terrell Thomas has retained his faith. I’m not complaining about the articles. Dan has to dig deep to come up with anything until camp opens, but I am now officially more interested in that great yawn the MLB Home Run Contest and who was in the Royal Box at Wimbledon than I am in the Giants in early July. Can we get to July 25th tomorrow, please.

Only if you rehabilitate him in the eyes of the fan base. Get him to agree that he was a **** the field so everyone can “forgive” him his trespasses against their view of how a member of the Giants should act and then, hopefully, focus again on his work on the field.

Tiki: “I’m glad you asked that Dan. I was a bad man then in a bad place. Now I have prayed and have finally recognized that my life is not my own, and after speaking with Terrell Thomas last week I have started to look for appropriate Proverbs upon which to base my behavior. I’m sure the Giants and their fans will recognize that I have changed and that I left my all on the field for them. I only retired when I did because I am smarter than the average football player and decided the risk of permanent injury was too great in exchange for the rewards of a game that I had generally conquered at the time. I know fans may not appreciate that, but I did what I thought was right for me and my family.”
Dan: “Thanks for that, man.”
Tiki: “By the way, you have any work for me? I’m trying to rebuild my media career.”
I’m surprised Shockey said anything positive. What exactly did he say? I haven’t heard.
Simply said that he’d take Eli over Romo.

I’ve never lost my faith in Thor … and the God’s of Valhalla. Those other thousands of religions … over the millenniums … they’re a bunch of crap. But Thor … he’s the real deal. Yeah, this one’s true … it’s not like all those other ones. Nope. It’s not just some foolishness someone made up. It all really happened.
I guess I’m the guy who is still more interested in the tidbits here than anything baseball related. I still find Plax more relevant to my interests than sport-hobbies like tennis. Unless Jimmy Connors is making a comeback in his late fifties, I’ll stick to the scraps that the NFL world has to offer.
The Saints have already offered Brees the richest contract in league history, somewhere between $19.2 and $20 million per year. That theoretically leaves the ball in Brees’ court. But agent Tom Condon is likely pushing for more guaranteed money up front and will use Monday’s deadline for leverage.
