Mere hours after visiting with free agent cornerback Antwaun Molden, the New York Giants opted to go in a different direction, signing free agent defensive back Stevie Brown to a one-year deal.
Brown, who was selected in the 7th round (251st overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders, spent the 2011 season with the Indianapolis Colts.
In 23 career games (one start), Brown has 35 tackles and two passes defended. He's likely to compete for the now vacant Devin Thomas (Chicago Bears) role on special teams.
In addition to signing Brown and hosting Molden for a visit, Big Blue also met with free agent defensive end/linebacker Quentin Groves.
Groves, a 2nd round pick (52nd overall) of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2008 NFL Draft, spent the first two years of his career in Jacksonville before being traded to the Oakland Raiders for a 5th round pick in 2010.
In 63 career games, Groves has 107 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two interceptions. He's never quite lived up to his potential.
