The New England Patriots and QB Tom Brady haven't played well on offense for most of the season. Before they took the field against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Patriots ranked 19th in the league in yards per game and 16th in points per game. After today's game, that ranking will surely increase as the Patriots offense exploded in a 55-31 trouncing of the Steelers.
Tom Brady had a season high 432 yards passing to go along with four passing touchdowns. RB Stevan Ridley had 115 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the ground. Finally, the much maligned Patriot wide receiving core had a great game. Danny Amendola caught four passes for 122 yards and a touchdown, Aaron Dobson caught five passes for 130 yards two touchdowns and Rob Gronkowski caught nine passes for 143 yards and his first touchdown of the season.
On the flip side, the Patriots defense didn't look its best, which was to be expected with three starters on injured reserve and one missing his third straight game. While they did give up 400 yards passing and four touchdowns to Steeler QB Ben Roethlisberger, they sacked Big Ben five times, forced two interceptions and recorded one fumble as well.
The Patriots, already bitten by the injury bug quite a bit this year, were hit with several more injuries throughout the game as well. WR Austin Collie left with a knee injury in the second quarter and did not return, LB Rob Ninkovich left in the third quarter and did not return, S Steven Gregory left in the third quarter with a wrist injury and did not return and CB Alfonzo Dennard was injured on the final drive as well.
With the win, the Patriots enter their bye week with a 7-2 record and a two game lead on the New York Jets who are 5-4 after their win over the New Orleans Saints.
