The New England Patriots and New York Jets have had quite the rivalry since Rex Ryan has become the head man of the Jets. The teams have been pretty evenly matched when they have met up over the past several years. Yesterday, the Jets 30-27 overtime win gave them a season split in the series between the two teams.
Pro Football Talk reports that Tom Brady wasn't too happy about the loss. Brady told WEEI, “Nobody feels worse about the loss than me." Brady even went one step further by saying that he hated the fact that the Patriots also lost to the Jets. Specifically he said, "Losing sucks, and especially to the Jets. I’m going to go out there and try to have my best week this week."
As for his comments regarding the controversial penalty on the field goal, Brady said he didn't even really see the play and that the game should not have come down to the field goal in the first place.
I didn’t obviously see the play or see what they called. I still really haven’t seen the replay, Brady said. But it really shouldn’t have come down to that. We had plenty of other opportunities in the game to score points and really widen the gap that we had on them at halftime. We sputtered in the third quarter and fought back in the fourth quarter and had some chances at the end, got the ball to start overtime. So, there’s nobody to blame but ourselves. It’s a frustrating day. It’s a frustrating day losing. But hopefully we can learn from it and be a lot better this week.
Even though the loss seems catastrophic, the Patriots are still 5-2 and at the top of the division. Knowing the Patriots, they should move past this game pretty quickly and turn their focus towards the Miami Dolphins.
