The New England Patriots dropped their first game of the season earlier today in a defensive battle with the Cincinnati Bengals. Tom Brady had a difficult day as he and the offense played through poor weather that included frequent showers throughout the game.
The Bengals pulled off the victory after Bengals cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones intercepted Brady's pass at the Cincinnati 5-yard line. With the interception, Brady saw his streak of 52 consecutive games with a touchdown pass come to an end.
Brady, being the true professional he is, gave credit to the Bengals tough defense as another reason why the Patriots struggled offensively.
They have been playing great all year. You can’t expect to kick two field goals and win many games in the NFL. We can do a better job than that and we are going to have to if we want to win these games. We had too many silly execution errors and mental mistakes today. It is hard to drive the ball down the field if you keep making those mistakes.
The Patriots did get wide receiver Danny Amendola back this week after he was out for the past three weeks with a groin injury. Amendola caught four passes for 54 yards. He was also targeted nine times on the afternoon.
Finally, the Patriots also played their first game without nose tackle Vince Wilfork. They also lost Tommy Kelly to a right knee injury in the fourth quarter. The loss of WIlfork was quite noticeable as the Patriots gave up 162 yards rushing.
