The new England Patriots and their fans know the Patriots are young at the wide receiver position. They also know that injuries are starting to take a toll on the position as well as Danny Amendola has been out with a groin injury and Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins were both nicked up in Sunday's 30-23 victory over Atlanta.
Collie was signed by the 49ers this offseason before being released after training camp. He seemed to be a promising young wideout with the Colts, however, concussions started to hamper his ability to play in the NFL and he also ruptured his patella tendon in Week 3 of the 2012 season.
The signing makes sense as it a low risk, high reward type of signing. It also may signal that one of their wide receivers isn't quite ready to play yet, and they are bringing in Collie for insurance purposes.
