As Aqib Talib sealed the New England Patriots 13-10 Thursday night victory over the New York Jets with an interception, he was tackled out of bounds. It seemed late and dirty as Jets center Nick Mangold tackled Talib low. As the play ended, a scuffle ensued where two Jets players were ejected.
On Friday, five players were fined a total of over $72,000 for being part of the incident. As espn.com reports, Jets guard Willie Colon was the player who drew the heftiest of fines. Colon was fined a total of $34,125 for two incidents. He was fined $26,250 for contact with a referee and $7,875 for punching a Patriot player. Colon's teammate, D'Brickashaw Ferguson was the other Jet who was fined, as he was charged $15,000 for punching a Patriot as well.
The Patriots had three players fined for the scuffle as well. Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork, cornerback Alfonzo Dennard and defensive end Michael Buchanan were all fined $7,875 for unnecessary roughness.
A fourth Patriot was fined in the Thursday night game, however, for a different incident. Defensive end Chandler Jones was fined $15,750 for a hit he put on Jets quarterback Geno Smith in the first quarter.
