The New England Patriots are 2-0, however, Patriots fans and others don't feel too confident in their 2-0 start. After Tom Brady doesn't look like, well, Tom Brady. In fact, he currently ranks 22nd in Total QBR rankings. For perspective, that ranks behind Terrelle Pryor, Jake Locker, EJ Manuel and Carson Palmer. Also he ranks one spot ahead of Eli Manning. But that ranking speaks more about the players around him than Brady himself.
He sure would love having, say, WR Danny Amendola and TE Rob Gronkowski back from injuries. As Pro Football Talk reports, Bill Belichick was asked about that in a conference call earlier today and merely responded by saying that Gronkowski and Amendola are "day-to-day." While day-to-day may be a correct assumption for Gronkowski as he has been practicing regularly since the season began, it may be more optimistic for Amendola. Amendola was reported by Jay Glazer of FOX Sports as being out as much as six weeks due to a groin injury.
Belichick had this to say when a reporter asked him if he would describe Amendola's injury as more of a "week-to-week" evaluation. Belichick said, “I’d say really all of our players are day-to-day other than obviously [running back Shane] Vereen. I know the rest of them we’ll just take it day-to-day.”
So with both players availability up in the air, Tom Brady will have to continue to win ugly and work out the kinks with Julian Edelman and a cast of rookie wide receivers. This week they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who held a potent New Orleans passing attack to 16 points, albeit, in a losing effort.
