The New England Patriots knew they were taking a gamble on Danny Amendola when they signed him this offseason and let Wes Welker go in free agency. While Amendola's talent has never been in question, his ability to stay healthy has.

The Patriots received more bad news regarding the fragile receiver, as Pro Football Talk reports that Amendola could miss anywhere from two to six weeks because of his groin injury.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport was the first to report the news. The news that Amendola could miss anywhere from two to six games is not what the Patriots wide receiving group needs. The team is already without their top five targets from last season and versatile RB Shane Vereen, who caught seven passes last week in Buffalo.

Without Amendola, the Patriots will have to rely on two rookies, Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson, as well as Julian Edelman to pick up the slack. In the Patriots 13-10 win over the New York Jets, the Patriots offense struggled without Amendola and Vereen. Edelman caught 13 of Brady's 19 completions as Brady finished the game by completing 19-of-39 passes for 185 yards and one touchdown.

As sportcenter tweeted out during the game, Brady also registered his worst completion percentage in a game since Week 2 of the 2009 season against the Jets. He finished Thursday's game with a 48.7 completion percentage. In 2009, the completion percentage was 48.9.

Last week Vereen and Amendola combined to catch 17 of the 29 passes that Brady completed. Amendola also had 10 receptions for 104 yards in his first game as a Patriot.
