Brandon Lloyd was a valuable part of the Patriots passing attack last season as he caught 74 passes for 911 yards and four touchdowns. Those numbers were good for second on the team in receptions and receiving yards. With the recent injury news to WR Danny Amendola and the relative inexperience of the wide receiving corps as a whole, it would make sense for the Patriots to inquire about signing the free agent wide receiver.
Also it seems as if the move would make sense seeing as how he has the most experience with the Patriots system and would provide a deep threat to the offense that it necessarily doesn't have.
However, according to profootballtalk.com, Lloyd was indeed contacted by the Patriots as well as five other teams. The other teams mentioned were the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers. Lloyd declined all the offers and told the teams that he had no interest in playing, citing that he isn't physically or mentally up to playing.
