While the Patriots continued to fill out the tail end of their roster and their practice squad, the Patriots are continuing to get ready for the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 of the NFL season. Below are some of the practice notes and some snippets from the Bill Belichick press conference.
Patriots fans should be happy to hear that tight end Rob Gronkowski was practicing for the second straight day today. In what the media saw, Gronkowski stretched and jogged through some plays with the first team offense. Head coach Bill Belichick gave no indication as to Gronkowski's status as per usual Bill Belichick fashion. The only information he gave was that Gronkowski was "day-to-day."
One of the more interesting notes from practice is that running back LeGarrette Blount has been taking reps at handling the kickoff return duties now that the Patriots released Leon Wasington. Blount doesn't have much experience returning kicks but as Belichick said in the press conference, "He’s got a lot of experience carrying the ball and he has good vision, he has good running skills. He’s seemed to pick it up well." It should be interesting to see a man with Blount's size (6'0", 250 pounds) handle kickoff return duties and whether or not he gets any chances in this week's game against the Bills.
Laslty, Belichick was quiet in regards to the injury news concerning offensive lineman Will Svitek saying, "I’m sure the much anticipated injury report will come out on Wednesday and we’ll fill you in on everything then" when asked about a status update. Svitek has an injured right knee and was seen by media members wearing a surgical sock and a knee brace around the injured knee.
