As the New England Patriots get ready for their last preseason game against the New York Giants this week, the team and their fans got some good news. After missing all of last week with an undisclosed injury, wide receiver Danny Amendola returned to practice today. Catching six passes for 71 yards and a touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second preseason game, Amendola did not appear at practice or the third preseason game against the Detroit Lions and the only explanation that was given was head coach Bill Belichick saying Amendola was "day to day."
Amendola's return gives Tom Brady arguably his best wide receiving target, especially with how well they connected on the opening drive in that Tampa Bay preseason game. Also it was a relief to know that nothing is seriously wrong with Amendola, who has a history of injury problems.
When asked by reporters what was his specific injury was, Amendola answered in typical Patriots-like fashion saying, "I had a good day today and really enjoyed being back out there on the field."
Speaking of injuries, tight end Rob Gronkowski was seen doing rehab exercises with a group that included cornerback Alfonzo Dennard, defensive end Jermaine Cunningham, rookie wide receiver Mark Harrison and rookie defensive lineman Armond Armstead.
After releasing five players earlier today, the Patriots still have to make a couple more cuts before getting to the NFL mandated 75-man roster deadline by tomorrow.
