After catching six passes for 71 yards and a touchdown in the New England Patriots 25-21 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, wide receiver Danny Amendola was among the most notable absentee as the Patriots prepare for their third preseason game against the Detroit Lions.
As Erik Scalavino of Patriots Football Weekly cites in his Monday report of the team's practice on Patriots.com, Amendola missed practice today, however, the reason was unknown. Whatever the reason is, though, it does not seem to be serious. Amendola showcased why the Patriots felt confident in letting Wes Welker go in free agency in last week's preseason game. He also showed a great rapport with Tom Brady as he was the recipient of nearly every throw that Brady threw.
Other notes from today included Devin McCourty finally being cleared for contact. For the first time this training camp, McCourty took off his red non-contact jersey as he recovered from offseason shoulder surgery. Tight end Daniel Fells also returned to the practice field after suffering from a shoulder injury for the past week.
Other inactives from todays practice included TE Rob Gronkowski (arm, back surgeries), DE Jermaine Cunningham, DL Armond Armstead (illness), CB Brandon Jones and WR Mark Harrison (foot).
