ESPN reports that New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was arrested in Lincoln, Nebraska early Thursday morning. According to police reports, he was pulled over a little before 2 a.m. and failed a sobriety test.
Although he was arrested, he was not put in jail and was instead put in a detoxification center. The hearing for the arrest will occur August 12.
Dennard, who was already on a two-year probation for felony assault of a police officer in April 2012, was scheduled to serve a 30-day jail sentence after this upcoming season starting on March 1, 2014.
It is unclear how the arrest earlier this morning will affect his probation time and his scheduled jail time.
The New England Patriots released a short statement today that said, "The New England Patriots are extremely disappointed to learn of Alfonzo Dennard's arrest. We take this matter very seriously and are working to get more information on the incident."
It will be very interesting to see what the New England Patriots will do to Dennard, especially after the arrest and subsequent release of Aaron Hernandez. If suspended, or even released, it would be a huge loss for a young Patriots secondary.Tags: Alfonzo Dennard, arrest, Football, New England, New England Patriots, NFL
