The Patriots have placed Julian Edelman on injured reserve after he suffered a foot injury against the Dolphins.  Edelman's season is over.

Despite missing multiple games due to injury, Edelman finished the year with a 15.5 yard punt return average, which ranks second in the NFL, as well as 21 catches for 235 yards and three touchdowns.  His other injuries this year include a broken hand, and a concussion suffered against the Jets on Thanskgiving.

Edelman had been playing the best football of his career.  He scored four touchdowns over five days in games against the Colts and Jets including two on special teams and two on offense.

He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season so his future with the Patriots is uncertain.  Belichick has praised him the way only Bill Belichick can  saying,

He's worked hard.  Julian is a solid, solid guy.  He works hard, very good conditioned athlete.  He's versatile and he's done a number of different things for us.

Donte Stallworth has been resigned to replace Edelman.  He played with Tom Brady and the Patriots as part of the record setting 2007 offensive unit and in camp with the Patriots before being let go in the last wave of cuts prior to the season opener.
