DE Jermaine Cunningham has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.  He will be eligible to return before the final regular season game against the Miami Dolphins.

After being drafted in the second round of 2010 NFL draft Cunningham was on the roster bubble entering training camp this season.  However, he ended up winning an offseason award for making great progress both on and off the field and secured a spot on the Patriot defense.   Through 11 games this season he has made 23 tackles, had 2.5 sacks, and recovered two fumbles while playing on 58% of the Patriots defensive snaps.

Sources say that Cunningham tested positive for Adderall, however, since the league does not disclose the substance triggering the failed test, players may claim it was whatever drug they choose.  Many players have blamed failed drug tests on Adderall this season.

With Chandler Jones out with injury and Cunningham suspended the Patriots have lost two of their best pass rushers.  Trevor Scott will likely see increased playing time to replace Cunningham and Jones.
