Max is considered one of the most promising young drivers in Europe right now. He has won seven times this season in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship driving for Van Armersfoort Racing.

“It goes without saying that I’m very happy and I feel honored to be part of the Red Bull Junior Team, which has successfully brought and guided many drivers into Formula One,” said Verstappen. “I will take this opportunity with both hands in order to develop and maximize my career with Red Bull. I want to thank Dr. Helmut Marko for his involvement in making this partnership possible and I want to thank Red Bull for putting their trust in me.”

Four-time defending World Champion Sebastian Vettel was a graduate from the Red Bull Junior Team as was Vettel's current teammate Daniel Ricciardo. Toro Rosso's two drivers this season, Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniil Kvyat, also both came through Red Bull's Junior Team.

Verstappen is currently second in the Formula 3 Championship standings after 24 of 33 races. He trails Esteban Ocon by 94 points. Six of Verstappen's seven wins came consecutively when he swept all three races at Spa-Francorchamps and Norisring back in June.

The season concludes with three races each at Nurburgring this weekend and then the final two weekends fall in October at Imola and Hockenheim. Red Bull Racing also confirmed that the Dutch driver will compete in the prestigious Macau Grand Prix in November.
