Starting this weekend at the Santander British Grand Prix at Silverstone Scuderia Ferrari will have a new sponsor on their F 14 T with Haas Automation logos appearing on the cars of Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen.
Haas Automation owner Gene Haas is in the process of forming a Formula One team called Haas Formula but the team will not hit the track until the 2016 season. By signing this deal with Ferrari it allows Haas, co-owner of NASCAR's Stewart-Haas Racing, to start the expansion of his brand on a global scale which is his main goal in entering F1 competition.
“Haas Automation is a premium brand, and there’s no better way to drive that point home than to connect it with Scuderia Ferrari on motor racing’s biggest stage,” said Haas. “Scuderia Ferrari is F1’s most prestigious and decorated team with a large, loyal and passionate fan base. Exposing Scuderia Ferrari fans and Ferrari customers to the quality of Haas Automation CNC machine tools is an important first step to expanding our global reach."
While this sponsorship deal does not mean that Ferrari will be the team that Haas Formula uses for their engine and other technology come 2016 it is a sure sign that most likely that will be the case.
“In parallel, but as a separate project, Haas is committed to entering Formula One with its own team, a testimony to the growing appeal of our sport in the USA and on this front, technical discussions are ongoing between us," said Ferrari boss Marco Mattiacci.
Currently Ferrari is third on the 2014 F1 constructors points standings with 98 total points. Alonso is fourth in the driver points with 79 points and Raikkonen is a disappointing 12th with only 19 points.Tags: British Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso, Formula One, Gene Haas, Haas Automation, Haas Formula, Kimi Raikkonen, Marco Mattiacci, Motorsports, Santander British Grand Prix, Scuderia Ferrari, Silverstone
