Points Leader Ben Rhodes Scores NASCAR K&N Pro Series Win at Iowa Speedway

Ben Rhodes continued his great start to the 2014 season by leading the final 115 laps in winning the Casey's General Store 150 combination race between the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West at Iowa Speedway Saturday night. The East Series points leader now has five top five finishes in six races this season and this is the 17-year-old NASCAR Next driver's second win of the year.

Rhodes won by 2.377 seconds over Nick Drake. For Drake it was his career best finish. Also having career best finishes were Scott Heckert in third and Jay Beasley in fourth. Brandon Jones rounded out the top five. Brennan Newberry finished sixth, Daniel Suarez seventh, Ronnie Bassett Jr eighth, David Mayhew ninth, and Austin Hill tenth.

Mayhew was the top West Series finisher and was awarded a win in that series which made it two wins in a row on the 2014 season for Mayhew. It is the third time Mayhew has picked up the West Series win in the combination race.

Brodie Kostecki started from his first career pole position and led the first 35 laps but crashed out of the race and finished 33rd of the 37 car field. He got caught up in the accident that brought out the fourth and final caution of the race on lap 79. It was a multi-car accident involving Mackena Bell, Patrick Staropoli, Cameron Hayley, Cole Custer, and Kenzie Ruston. Everyone continued besides Bell and Kostecki.

The first caution was for a crash by Kaz Grala who finished 36th. The second caution was for an accident involving Eddie MacDonald and Giles Thornton. McDonald finished 35th and Thornton 29th. The third caution was for a crash by Brandon McReynolds who finished 34th.

Sergio Pena finished 11th or tenth of the East drivers. Finishing in 12th and second of the West drivers was Greg Pursley. Cole Custer finished 13th, Cameron Hayley 14th, Patrick Staropoli 15th, Kenzie Ruston 16th, James Brickford 17th, Trey Hutchens 18th, Ryan Gifford 19th, and Dylan Lupton was the last lead lap car in 20th. Other notables in the finishing order were Jesse Little in 21st and Gray Gaulding 25th.

Ben Rhodes now has a 38 point lead over Cameron Hayley in the East Series after six races. Gray Gaulding is 39 points back in third, Daniel Suarez is 48 back in fourth, and Nick Drake is 54 back in fifth. Austin Hill is sixth, Brandon Jones seventh, Jesse Little eighth, Ronnie Bassett Jr ninth, and Kaz Grala tenth.

Greg Pursley leads the West Series points by 12 after four races over David Mayhew. Dylan Lupton is 14 points back in third, Giles Thornton is 19 back in fourth, and Brandon McReynolds is 21 back in fifth.

The next race up for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West is on Saturday, May 24 at Kern County Raceway Park for the Armed Forces 150. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East's next race is on Saturday, May 31 at Bowman Gray Stadium for the NASCAR Hall of Fame 150.
