Roush Fenway Racing and lead engineer Chip Bolin have parted ways effective immediately. The team confirmed that they have released the 40 year old, who has been with the organization since 1998.

Bolin has been a key componet with the organization and was a big part of Matt Kenseth's #17 Ford including his 2003 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season.

Roush Fenway Racing has struggled so far in the 2014 season, recording just one victory with Carl Edwards at Bristol Motor Speedway in May. Edwards sits fifth in the Sprint Cup Series point standings. Edwards' teammates Greg Biffle and Ricky Stenhouse Jr sit ninth and 25th in the point standings respectively.

The news is curious because both Edwards and Biffle are in their contract years with the team.
