Valli Motorsports Yamaha is making an aggressive bid for the 2014 AMA Pro 250 Motocross Championship. Not only has the Yamaha support team signed World Motocross Champion Christophe Pourcel, they’re pairing the European’s riding talent with the strategic skill of long-time race team manager Erik Kehoe.

No stranger to racing in the United States, Pourcel won the AMA Supercross 250 East title in 2009 and 2010 while riding for the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team. During those same years he also contested the AMA 250 Motocross series, but wound up finishing just off the mark in second place overall in 2009 and third in 2010.
“When I came to America I had one goal and that was to win the AMA 250 Motocross National title,” said Frenchman Pourcel. “I came so close, but never realized my goal. That fire still burns, and the minute I had the opportunity to make another run at the title, on a bike as good as the 2014 YZ250F, I jumped at it.”

Acting as mentor to Pourcel is former racer and veteran team manager Kehoe, who has managed Supercross/Motocross teams for both Yamaha and Honda. According to Yamaha, he is ideal to work with Pourcel following his history with the Yamaha of Troy race team.

“Some of my best years as a team manager were with Yamaha,” said Kehoe. “They gave me my first shot at being a team manager and I remember quite fondly Ernesto Fonseca winning that first championship in his rookie year and then following it up right after with the then revolutionary YZ250F. I think we can recapture that magic with Pourcel and the 2014 YZ250F.”

Valli Motorsports Yamaha is one of Yamaha Motor Corporation’s satellite teams, along with the JGR Toyota Yamaha, Yamalube Star Racing and CycleTrader Rock River teams. The 2014 AMA Pro Motocross season kicks off on Saturday, May 24th at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, CA.
