Michael Waltrip Racing and Clint Bowyer had everything turn against them last season at Richmond International Raceway when Bowyer was at the center of "spin-gate." On Monday MWR announced that the organization has come to a multiyear contract extension with Bowyer, sponsor 5-hour ENERGY, and crew chief Brian Pattie.
The new deals start in the 2015 season.
“This is big news for all of us,” said Bowyer. “It creates great stability and excitement about what the next few years can bring. MWR is my racing home and continuing this relationship with 5-hour ENERGY was a high priority. It’s time to put the paperwork in a drawer and focus on winning.”
5-hour ENERGY along with sponsor Aaron's stuck with Michael Waltrip Racing whereas NAPA Auto Parts jumped ship from the team after the whole ordeal at Richmond left the then driver of the NAPA car Martin Truex Jr outside the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
PEAK and AAA Mid-Atlantic will also serve as primary sponsors on Bowyer's No. 15 Toyota again in 2015 along with 5-hour ENERGY.
Bowyer has eight career wins in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Three of those came after moving to MWR to start the 2012 season. In fact all of Bowyer's MWR victories came in 2012 with Pattie as his crew chief. Currently the duo is on a 51 race winless streak. Bowyer finished second in the driver standings to Brad Keselowski in 2012 for his best points finish of his career.
Currently Bowyer and the No. 15 team are 18th in the points and currently 20 points out of holding a place in the new Chase Grid format.Tags: Brian Pattie, Clint Bowyer, michael waltrip racing, Motorsports, MWR, NASCAR, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
