Biagi-DenBeste Racing has signed 25-year-old Ryan Gifford to drive the team's No. 98 Ford at the NASCAR Nationwide Series races at Iowa Speedway on May 18th and Kentucky Speedway on June 27th. Gifford, who is a NASCAR Drive for Diversity member and also was named to the NASCAR Next roster just last week has made one previous start in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
That start came last season in August at Iowa Speedway. He drove the No. 33 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing and qualified 23rd but impressed with a ninth place finish.
Gifford has competed the full seasons in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East from 2010 to 2013 and also made four starts in 2009. He has 15 top five finishes in 59 career starts. He became the first African-American to win a pole in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in 2010 at Martinsville Speedway. Last season, Gifford won his first East Series race at Richmond International Raceway. His best points finish came in 2010 with a ninth place finish in the series standings.
So far this season Gifford has driven all five East Series races with his best effort being sixth at Greenville-Pickens Speedway. He is currently 21st in the East Series points.
The No. 98 Biagi-DenBeste Racing team is 37th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series owner points in 2014 after attempting to make three of the first eight races of the season. David Ragan is in the car this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
