Kevin Harvick led 202 of the 250 laps of the ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond International Raceway to win the NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Friday. It's Harvick's 41st career NASCAR Nationwide Series victory, his seventh at the 0.75 mile Richmond track and the first of his 2014 season. Harvick took the lead for the first time on lap 43 and didn't look back. He beat his teammate Chase Elliott by just over two seconds.
Finishing in the third position was Kyle Busch with Kyle Larson finishing fourth and Brian Scott finishing fifth. Elliott Sadler finished in the sixth position with Chris Buescher holding off Regan Smith for seventh. Finishing in the ninth spot was Ryan Blaney and James Buescher finished in the tenth position.
The race was delayed for more than three hours due to rain. When the race began Brian Scott and Chase Elliott led the field to green and Scott led until the competition caution on lap 40. Kevin Harvick then took the race by the horns and passed Scott on the restart and pulled away. Harvick led until the races' third caution flag for debris on lap 150. Harvick led on the lap 163 restart and continued to lead when Rookie of the Year contender Dylan Kwasniewski hit the outside wall hard. Kwasniewski and fellow rookie driver Ryan Reed made contact sending his #31 Chevrolet hard into the outside wall ending his day. Kwasniewski finished 32nd.
The race restarted on lap 196 and the races fifth and final caution fell when Elliott Sadler and Regan Smith got together in Turn 1. It looked as is Trevor Bayne got into the back of Smith which then pushed Smith into Sadler. Both cars had limited damage and would continue. The race would continue on lap 203 with Harvick pulling away on the restart and taking the checkered flag.
Other notable drivers in the finishing order included Trevor Bayne in 11th, Ryan Reed 12th, Landon Cassill in 13th, Ty Dillon in 14th and Cale Conley was the final lead lap car in 15th. Daniel Suarez finished 19th in his Nationwide Series debut and Brendan Gaughan finished in 20th.
Chase Elliott continues to lead in the NASCAR Nationwide Series point standings. Elliott leads teammate Regan Smith by 19 points after the ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond International Raceway. Elliott Sadler is 23 points behind in third with Ty Dillon fourth in the standings 35 points back. Fifth in the standings is Trevor Bayne who is 39 points back with Brian Scott sixth in the standings 48 points back. Brendan Gaughan is seventh in the standings 74 points behind with James Buescher 84 points back in eighth. Ninth in the standings is Dylan Kwasniewski who is 102 points back of Elliott and Ryan Reed rounds out the top ten. Reed is 109 points off the lead.
The next race on the NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule is the Aaron's 312 at Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday, May 3rd.
