On Wednesday Sebastian Saavedra, a 23-year-old from Columbia, picked up a full season IndyCar Series ride for KV AFS Racing. He will drive the No. 17 Chevrolet powered car for the team which is a joint effort between KV Racing Technology co-owners Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser and Gary Peterson the owner of AFS Racing.

Back in 2009 Saavedra raced for AFS Racing/Andretti Autosport in the Indy Lights Series and won two races and Rookie of the Year honors. He also raced for that team in the 2012 Indy Lights Series and had one win and six podiums and also competed in three IndyCar Series races that year for the team.

“It looks to be a great alignment between AFS Racing, KV Racing Technology and Sebastian Saavedra,” said Peterson the founder of Automatic Fire Sprinklers Inc. (AFS). “My heart is always in racing and I’m looking forward to another great year."

Saavedra drove the 2013 IndyCar Series for Dragon Racing and finished 21st in points in what was his first full season at the top level of Indy racing. He will once again team with Sebastien Bourdais, who was his teammate at Dragon Racing in 2013. Bourdais will be driving the No. 11 KVSH Racing car this season. That is the car that won the 2013 Indianapolis 500 with Tony Kanaan driving.

"I am very thankful to be part of a great project that we have been working on for a good while now,” Saavedra said. “Seeing the AFS car back in action and with a great partnership with KV Racing Technology is something that brings a lot of excitement. All of this gives me great confidence to push not only my limits but the team’s, too. It's also great to be back working with Bourdais. I believe we have unfinished business out there.”

The season opener on March 30th in St. Petersburg will be Saavedra's debut with the team and 39th career IndyCar Series start.
