Wauters Motorsports signed John Wes Townley to drive their No. 5 Toyota Tundra full time in the 2014 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season. Zaxby's will be the sponsor on the truck moving over with Townley from Red Horse Racing where he competed full time in 2013 driving the No. 7 truck.
He scored seven top 10 finishes in 2013 and finished 11th in the driver point standings. It was the most successful season in NASCAR competition to date for the 24-year-old.
"We are excited to have John Wes and Zaxby's join us in 2014," team owner Richie Wauters said. "He has made significant gains in his NASCAR career and we feel this is the right fit for him this season. We expect to have John Wes in the top-five in points and, hopefully, bring home some wins for Zaxby's. And we are thrilled to be back fielding Toyotas with Joe Gibbs Racing Engines."
Townley has made 50 career Truck Series starts in his career with nine top 10 finishes. He has also made 45 career starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
In 2013 Townley won the season opening ARCA Racing Series race at Daytona International Speedway driving for Venturini Motorsports and with Zaxby's on the hood.
Wauters Motorsports only ran in 11 of the 22 Truck Series races in 2013 due to a lack of funding. Tim George Jr ran 10 of the races and Jason Bowles drove at Eldora Speedway.Tags: Camping World Truck Series, Joe Gibbs Racing, John Wes Townley, Motorsports, NASCAR, Red Horse Racing, Richie Wauters, Wauters Motorsports
