In a move clearly trying to make the end of the F1 season mean more the FIA announced that at the season finale in Abu Dhabi in 2014 there will be double points awarded to both the drivers and constructors. Sebastian Vettel clinched the 2013 Championship with a few races left in the season making the championship hunt mute over the last rounds.
The winner of the finale will be awarded 50 points instead of the normal 25, second place will receive 36 instead of 18, and so on through the top ten points paying positions.
Also announced by the FIA is that drivers competing in Formula 1 will be asked to pick the number they want on their car for the rest of their careers between 2 and 99. The number 1 will be reserved for the reigning champion unless they choose to use another number. If more than one driver choses the same number then priority will be given to the driver who finished higher in the 2013 points.
It was also decided that minor rule infringements will be penalized with a five second penalty.
Also announced by the FIA is a Pirelli Tire Test to be held in Bahrain from December 17th to the 19th. All F1 teams have been invited and so far six teams, Red Bull Racing, Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, Force India, and Toro Rosso have accepted.
