Richard Petty Motorsports will run developmental driver Corey LaJoie in his first NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway in the Ford EcoBoost 300. He will pilot the No. 9 Victory Junction Ford and be a teammate to Michael Annett.
The 22-year-old LaJoie will debut in the series that his father Randy won the 1996 and 1997 championships in.
"I feel really blessed and excited to make my debut at Homestead," LaJoie said. "I feel like I've been ready for this for a couple of years but finally everything is falling into place. I'm happy it's with a great organization like RPM, and I couldn't be more excited to represent them on and off the race track."
Mike Shiplett the current car chief for Marcos Ambrose in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will serve as crew chief for LaJoie and the No. 43 Sprint Cup pit crew of Aric Almirola will pit LaJoie's car Saturday.
LaJoie won three of his five ARCA Racing Series starts in 2013 with wins coming at Chicagoland Speedway, Pocono Raceway, and Kentucky Speedway. In 35 career NASCAR K&N Pro Series East starts LaJoie has five wins and 20 top 10 finishes. All of the five wins came in 2012 when LaJoie finished second in the standings. He also won one NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race in 2010.
