On Saturday night in Bakersfield, California Greg Pursley won the inaugural NAPA Auto Parts 150 at the new half-mile high banked Kern County Raceway Park. It was the fifth win for Pursley in the 2013 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season and the 18th of his career.
Points leader Derek Thorn started on the pole and led lap 1 before Gaulding took the top spot. Pursley challenged Gaulding and led on lap 57 but Gaulding was able to regain the lead from laps 58 to 61 before Pursley took over for good.
Gaulding ended up in 21st of the 28 car field after only completing 111 laps after getting in an accident.
There were a total of four cautions for 24 laps.
Finishing in second was Michael Self with Eric Holmes third, David Mayhew fourth, and Cameron Hayley fifth. Derek Thorn came home sixth, Dylan Lupton seventh, Shane Golobic eighth, Matt Tifft ninth, and Jason Fensler tenth. Daryl Harr was the last lead lap car in 11th.
With only one race left in the West Series season Derek Thorn holds a 16 point lead over Greg Pursley. Cameron Hayley is third 18 points back. Michael Self is 30 points back in fourth. Dylan Lupton rounds out the top five.
The season finale will be on November 9th for the running of the Casino Arizona 50 at Phoenix International Raceway.
