NASCAR has released the 2014 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule. The series will run 33 races in 2014 with three road course events. The season will start at Daytona International Speedway on February 22nd and will end at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 15th. There are no new racetracks added to the schedule in 2014 and the series will have very little change from the 2013 schedule.
“As it continues to provide great racing for our fans, the NASCAR Nationwide Series is also a launching pad for our rising talent,” said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR senior vice president of racing operations. “It’s exciting to watch the growth of current and former series drivers Kyle Larson, Austin Dillon and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. among others in their progression to challenge NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stars like Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick. Those former NASCAR Nationwide Series champions also make up a majority of this year’s Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers.”
Changes to the schedule include the annual race on the schedule at Darlington Raceway which has been moved up one month earlier to April 11th, while the first race at Iowa Speedway is slated for May 18th, as it used to be held in June. The first race at Texas Motor Speedway has been moved up a week to April fourth. Texas and Darlington's change coincides with the changes to the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule. Chicagoland's standalone race will return to a night race on July 11th. There will only be six non-companion races in the Nationwide Series in 2014, the same amount as 2013.
Series sponsor Nationwide Insurance and NASCAR will bring back the popular "Dash4Cash" bonus. The program awards Nationwide Series only drivers for winning races and usually a fan is included in the winning. A complete announcement about the program will be announced at a later date.
