Roush Fenway Racing announced that Ryan Reed will race full time for the organization in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2014. Reed will run for the Rookie of the Year in the Nationwide Series with support coming from the American Diabetes Association Drive to Stop Diabetes presented by Lilly Diabetes. Reed will drive the #16 Ford for the organization.
“Ryan has shown a tremendous amount of talent in the races he has competed in for us this season,” said team owner Jack Roush. “His ability to not only battle the odds, but win out over the elements is a testament to the competitor that he is. We certainly are looking forward to getting him in the car on a full-time basis next season and at the same time teaming with the ADA and Lilly Diabetes to make a difference in the lives of people dealing with diabetes.”
Reed has run three races for Roush Fenway Racing in 2013 and is will run the Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Reed will also run the final two NASCAR Nationwide Series races of the season at Phoenix International Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway in November.
In his three starts in 2013 Reed has a best finish of nine which he did at Richmond in September. No word on whether crew chief Scott Barbour will remain in the same role in 2014 as he did in 2013.
