It came down to the last car in qualifying as Jeff Gordon took the pole for Saturday night's Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. It's Gordon's 74th career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole and the second of his 2013 season. Gordon took the pole at a speed of 194.308 mph. On the outside of the front row with Gordon Saturday night is Kevin Harvick.
Starting third is Greg Biffle and Jimmie Johnson will roll off from the fourth position. Starting in the fifth position is Kasey Kahne and Dale Earnhardt Jr is starting in the sixth position. Starting seventh is Ryan Newman with Juan Pablo Montoya starting in the eighth position. Starting ninth is Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch will round out the top ten.
Aric Almirola will start from the 11th position with Joey Logano rolling off from the 12th position. Starting 13th is Paul Menard and starting 14th is Clint Bowyer. Carl Edwards will roll off from the 15th position and starting 16th is Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Starting 17th is Martin Truex Jr and Denny Hamlin will start 18th. Brian Scott will start 19th and Matt Kenseth will start 20th. Scott is one of three drivers making his Sprint Cup Series debut this weekend. Scott is driving the #33 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing. The two other drivers are Kyle Larson who will start 21st and Blake Koch who will start 43rd.
Other notables in the field include Brad Keselowski in 23rd and Jeff Burton in 26th. Danica Patrick will start 35th.
