Cole Custer became a multi-time winner in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in only his 12th career start by winning the North American Power 100 on Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The win for the 15-year-old follows his earlier win this season at Iowa on August 2nd which made his the youngest series winner.
Custer sat on the pole and led a race high 60 laps en route to the win.
His biggest competition might have come from points leader Dylan Kwasniewski but his race ended on lap 34 while battling for the lead with Custer. Kwasniewski spun when trying to pass Custer and his car sustained heavy damage along with Ryan Gifford, Ben Kennedy, Rafael Vallina and Bryan Ortiz. They finished in positions 24 through 28 in the 30 car field.
Eddie MacDonald took the lead from Custer on lap 41 but his race ended with a crash on lap 45 which relegated him to a 23rd place finish.
Daniel Suarez then became Custer's biggest challenge as Suarez led from laps 47 to 55 before Custer led lap 56. Suarez then showed the way from laps 57 to 86 before Custer led laps 87 to 105 to win. Overall there were 8 cautions including the final one that set up a green-white-checkered finish when Austin Self crashed.
Daniel Suarez finished second and it marked his fifth top three finish in the last six races. Third went to Cale Conley, Ben Rhodes was fourth, and Dylan Presnell fifth. Jesse Little was sixth, Brett Moffitt seventh, Gray Gaulding eighth, Mackena Bell ninth, and Ronnie Bassett Jr tenth.
Dylan Kwasniewski's points lead dropped to 23 points over Brett Moffitt with two races left in the 14-race schedule. Ben Kennedy is third and Eddie MacDonald fourth. Both are 55 points behind Kwasniewski and missed an opportunity to be close in the standings. Daniel Saurez is fifth in points. Cole Custer moved up to tenth.
The next race up for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East is on Friday, September 27th at Dover International Speedway.
